What is your favorite time of the day and what do you do then?
6.01 am. When the time seems to slow down so much that one cannot feel it passing anymore.
Describe what you see when you look out the nearest window?
Rainy Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Lufthansa taking off, KLM landing. Miniature people somewhere in the distance transporting luggage.
Tell us about your project Dwarfdom.
Dwarfdom is a photo essay and a mini documentary. Bulk of it was made in 2011 and 2012. It is about my little people friends Sofiya, Clinton, Jahmani and Justin who all live in New York. I wanted to create a kingdom for them. The documentary Dwarfdom was shown in London a few months back. The project is not finished yet, it'll probably never be.
When was the last time you felt really satisfied?
Following the Lacanian principle of satisfaction, actually obtaining jouissance will always be a disappointment. It is the expected satisfaction that is the rewarding one. So for me, the process of a new current project or an idea of one.
When was the last time you failed at something?
I was working on an obesity project for our collective in New York, but I was so hooked on Dan Simmon's Endymion that I could not stop reading. I went to the shoot totally unprepared and didn't take any good shots either.
