When you look out the nearest window, what do you see?
I see the sun and I love it! I live in Helsinki so it is very dark here during the winter.
Where do you find inspiration?
Basically, I find inspiration in everything. I am a highly visual person so i try to follow, not only what happens in the visual arts, but also in the fields of graphic design, industrial design, film, fashion... etc.
Today i found inspiration in a book i am currently reading. I love books, and many of my favorite ones show characters, feelings and sensations that have existed within every of us for centuries and generations. The stories are about the lives of the characters in the books, but also about the lives of the readers.
That is also something i try to achieve in my own work: i hope the artworks can communicate with an audience.
Tell us more about your project My Little Empire
My last solo exhibition My little empire showed an imaginary art collection, which consisted of works by different artists, but which were, however, assembled and created by one person = me.
As a kid i wanted to become an art collector when i grow up, so this is a exhibition i have always wanted to create.
An audience is present at every exhibition and i felt it would be interesting to talk about them, and in this case especially about someone who likes to collect things. In conjunction with the exhibition, a trilingual publication was published. It contains essays on the subject of collecting.
That was the theme for my latest exhibition. However, my work by nature is something that is all the time in process, and it cannot be limited to a defined state. So in my following exhibition i will study something else.
I love early mornings and late nights. Those are the best hours of the day for me to work. Unfortunately i can't have them both, since i really need my 8 hours of sleep every night. If i didn't have so many things to do during daytime, i would probably sleep the entire day.
What is your biggest fear?
One of my biggest fears is to run completely dry out of new ideas.
How do you challenge yourself?
I am by nature a very curious person. I am constantly trying to learn something new and get interested in things i haven't had any earlier interest in. Many times when i start preparing a new project, i ask myself: what should I not do? And what i get as an answer is often the thing i will start working with.
When was the last time you made someone happy?
I try to say something positive to somebody every day. I know how happy I get when somebody says for example: i like the way you smile. Just a couple of kind words can make a big difference.
